Family and friends

Family and friends are also a part of your team. Share information with them that will help them offer positive support.

If you take medication that can lower your blood glucose, talk to your family, friends and co-workers about low-blood glucose, the symptoms and the treatment. Keep low blood glucose treatment available, and let them know where to find it and how to use it. Let them know when to call for help and who to call in the case of an emergency.

Occasionally, well-intentioned comments, especially about food choices, can be a source of frustration. It is most often caring toward you and worry about your health that motivates well-meaning advice. An effective way to prevent an awkward situation from being repeated is to be honest. Share information about your healthy food choices, and that all foods can be part of your meals.
